There was not a single space left unfilled in the church on the Tuesday evening when we all gathered together to celebrate the Induction of Fr. Jean-Patrice Coulon, our new Parish Priest and to welcome Fr. Erudaya from India as Assistant Priest.

A very warm welcome was extended to everyone present by Father Louis Beasley-Suffolk, Dean of Glastonbury Deanery, in which he made particular mention of Lise, the mother of Fr. Jean-Patrice, the Mayor of Yeovil, Manny Roper, and the rich diversity of our Indian, Polish and Filipino communities, all of whom have become valuable members of our Parish.

Fr. Louis was assisted by priests from the Deanery, also it was good to see the familiar faces of Fr. Phillip from Devizes and Fr. Saji, from Malmesbury.

Following the singing of ‘Praise to the Lord, the Almighty,’ Fr. Louis then began the Rite of Induction. The ceremony began with the Presentation of the new Parish Priest to the Dean and included a Welcome by the People of the Parish, in which the Dean appealed for their prayers of support for Fr. Jean-Patrice to discern and realise a vision for the parish by also offering their own resources and talents.

Finally, the People were asked: “Do you commit yourselves to this task, to which they responded: “We do, by the Grace of God.”

The Mass then continued using the Holy Ghost Parish Mass setting devised by Ray d’Inverno, with the choir leading most of the singing. But there were also contributions from the Malayalam community singing the Sanctus (Holy, Holy) and the Polish, the Communion Hymn, which further enriched this Induction Mass.
