There was not a single space left unfilled in the church on the Tuesday evening when we all gathered together to celebrate the Induction of Fr. Jean-Patrice Coulon, our new Parish Priest and to welcome Fr. Erudaya from India as Assistant Priest.

A very warm welcome was extended to everyone present by Father Louis Beasley-Suffolk, Dean of Glastonbury Deanery, in which he made particular mention of Lise, the mother of Fr. Jean-Patrice, the Mayor of Yeovil, Manny Roper, and the rich diversity of ...

My Confirmation

Posted by Erin Darling-Finan on Monday, June 23, 2014, In : Liturgy

On the 20th October, we, a group of young people who had been preparing for Confirmation, couldn’t believe that the time had actually come.  We had reached the day of our Confirmation.  We had been preparing for this for months; Pat, Margaret and Fran had helped us all by arranging lessons for us to attend in order to learn more about God, the Church and the sacrament we were going to receive.   They even arranged a day for us at St Gildas in   Langport which was both informative and fun.

Confirmation - an amazing experience.

Posted by Katie Ward on Monday, June 23, 2014, In : Liturgy

On the 20th October 2011, 15 candidates, including myself, had the merciful and wonderful experience of being confirmed. Preparing for the ceremony, we had discussions on: ‘Why should we get confirmed?’ ‘What is the Holy Spirit and how does it help us?’ There were many more questions, into which we had to dig deep to really truly understand the meaning of the Holy Spirit, so we were certain of the way to Confirmation. The painting was a tableau of many scenes taken from this well-known story of the mercy, love and forgiveness of this remarkable father, but since it represented scenes from modern times it took me by surprise, initially.

St. Luke’s account laid an emphasis on Jesus’ ministry to reconcile sinners to the Father and how he exercised the grea...

"The Word was made flesh"

In this time of preparing to celebrate the coming of our redeemer, let us reflect on the great mercy of God -

I
n Isaiah, Chapter 11, we read that the Messiah would come from the stock of Jesse, of David's line;

- "on him the spirit of the Lord rests, a spirit of wisdom and insight, a spirit of counsel and power, a spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord.

This Messiah "will not judge by appearances, nor by hearsay, but will judge the wretched with integrity and w...

Fr. Clarke blesses his wife

It was another day of grey skies and lashing rain, but once inside the Cathedral church of St. Peter and St. Paul, there was an all-pervading sense of light, space and serenity.

Well before 5.00pm pews were quickly filling, not only with the relations and friends of the four Anglican priests to be ordained, but also with groups of parishioners from several churches in the diocese, both Catholic and Anglican.

The Mass of Ordination began with the entrance hymn, 'Come down, O love divine,' which ...
