Evangelium 2012

Posted by Cal Fenn on Monday, June 23, 2014, In : Events

Some of you will recall Poppy MacDonald running an adult catechesis course called Evangelium - a programme designed to unlock the riches of the Catholic Faith by instructing and informing the laity with an orthodox vision of the Catholic Faith. The co-founders (Frs Andrew Pinsent and Marcus Holden, pictured below with Archbishop Mennini) of said multimedia course run an annual conference. Held in the picturesque grounds of the Oratory School, near Reading, participants had a weekend of academ...

RELIVE:FLAME2012

INSPIRED BY FLAME  -  SATURDAY, 24th MARCH, 2012.

An early start was made to the weekend by over a dozen young people from our churches, as we headed up to Wembley to join a youthful crowd of 8,000 from all over the country – the northerners even hired a train for the event!

We had been preparing for ‘Flame’ for many months, yet, in truth, the exact nature of the day was not really known by us until it got started. As Father Andrej observed, it was a brilliantly designed programme, starti...

OUR PARISH OUTING TO SIDMOUTH 1 JUNE 2013

Posted by Louise Vaughan on Monday, June 23, 2014, In : Events

It was a lovely sunny morning when we assembled to get onto the coach for the ‘Parish Day Out’.  I was the official ‘bag lady’ that day as I think I brought everything except the kitchen sink with me for my little girl Daisy and myself. When all 35 parishioners, including 4 children, Archie, Daisy, Devon and Dylan were safely on board we set off to Sidmouth.

The journey was very scenic and as we were sitting at a much higher level than most other vehicles I took a sneaky peek into some...

In the footsteps of St. Francis.Visit May 2012.

Posted by Madeleine Harvey on Monday, June 23, 2014, In : Events
Our first impressions of Assisi - visited on a day trip from Rome more than 10 years ago - were so indelibly stamped on my mind that we promised ourselves that, one day, we would return. Furthermore, St. Francis is surely one of our best-loved saints, given his deep love for the natural world and compassion for the poor. When we heard that an eight-day Parish pilgrimage/holiday to Assisi and Rome was being organised, we, therefore, jumped at the chance of joining the16 other parishioners who ...

Time For A Weekend Celebration

Just enough time for a late autumn break. The weekend of the 27th  October 2012 seemed an ideal time to join together for a celebration both to renew and to celebrate the love our God has for each one of us.

A group of seven parishioners from our parish left in two cars from close to the Parish Centre in Yeovil early on the Saturday morning – our destination, St Bede's Catholic College in Bristol.  We all arrived just before 10.00am after a pleasant drive by th...

Youth 2000 Live - Walsingham - 25-29 August 2011.

What is Y2K?

Youth 2000, or Y2K, is a movement in the Church that helps young Catholics towards a deeper understanding of their faith. They run several events over the year, which provide a prayerful encounter with Our Lord through Mass, adoration, confession, rosary, worship and talks.

The worship that you experience there is quite different from that which you may have encountered at your local church. Using songs composed just a few years ago, accompanied by drums, guitarand 'the works,' ...

Parish Outing to Harvington Hall on 30th May, 2011.

Posted by Madeleine Harvey on Monday, June 23, 2014, In : Events

The skies were grey, rain was threatening, but  everyone was in good spirits. Our group of 16 had arrived by mini-bus after a three and a half hour journey to Harvington (near Kidderminster), so we were ready to stretch our legs and explore the House and Garden. But before you follow us on our tour, you might find it useful to know something about the origins of this impressive Elizabethan house.

It's believed that John Pakington, a wealthy lawyer, may have initiated work on the House as we se...

Papal visit - 18th September 2011

Posted by Cal Fenn on Monday, June 23, 2014, In : Events

PThe pope has now beatified John Henry Newman and his personal motto and the theme of the papal visit, Heart Speaks unto Heart, was particularly suited to the manner in which the Holy Father spoke to the young people gathered about their calling in life – to make families to re-establish the dignity of the person, or to be teachers of the faith, lay or religious in which the pope was reminding us all to live out our faith. Awaking at 2-00am on a Saturday morning was worth it to join the Pop...

THE PARISH LOURDES EXPERIENCE

Posted by A Pilgrim Priest on Monday, June 23, 2014, In : Events

On Friday 30th September 2011, at 4.00 a.m., 33 very tired and bleary eyed pilgrims, most of whom were from our parish, made the rendezvous to begin a physical journey of over 1000 miles and a spiritual journey of a far greater distance. Most of us woke up when it was time to get on the ferry, but in truth the journey was a chance for pilgrims who were unfamiliar with each other to get to know each other better. For all of us it was a journey into the unexpected; some of us came expecting a g...
